I think even with everything else that is my life, I will always define myself first in terms of my weight. That might be okay, or it might be a very sad commentary on my life. Is is the reality, though.
I had been overweight and/or obese since childhood, trying every weight loss idea I thought had merit, from doctor supervised programs to Weight Watchers and most everything in between. In 1999, at my highest weight ever of 340 lbs, I had a gastric bypass operation. Even that didn’t work. Though I lost lots of weight, by the time I started low carb in 2003, I was back up to 297 and still getting bigger. I started low carb dieting on September 6, 2003. I lost 100 lbs in the that first year and have kept that weight off (and lost another 20 lbs) since then.
I’m also a wife, daughter, sister, friend, and aunt. I’m a runner. I work for a living. I love movies, too. There is more to me than my weight, but in this space, my weight and how I deal with it is my focus.
Hi, Valerie. Just wanted you to know I added your blog to both my blogs, Lynn’s Weigh and Refuse to Regain. I hope that’s OK. If not, please let me know and I’ll take them down. I love your site and wanted to help spread the word. L
Valerie,
Your blog is a wonderful find! I’m glad that Lynn linked to it – I found it through her site. I’m 30 lbs down and moving toward what needs to be a 120+ lb weight loss. I know that other people have done it – but to have their stories in front of me every day – hearing them live it out – is such a support for me. Thanks for putting your story out there!
